Ranking Mississippi State baseball's walk-up songs, including Taylor Swift, Guns N' Roses (2024)

STARKVILLE — "Friend in Low Places" by Garth Brooks will always be among the top songs associated with Mississippi State baseball. In the middle of the eighth inning, fans at Dudy Noble Field stop what they're doing to sing in unison.

However, the soundtrack for one of college baseball's top venues runs deeper than one tune. Just ask Landon Sims, whose walk-out song ("Still of the Night" by Whitesnake) became memorable in his MSU career for closing games during the Bulldogs' national title run in 2021.

They are looking to turn around their fortunes in the 2024 season after missing the postseason in back-to-back years. If it's going to be a season filled with memorable moments, there will be walk-up songs that wind up linked to it for years to come.

Here's how we ranked the five best walk-up songs for Mississippi State this season.

Amani Larry — 'Swag Surfin' by F.L.Y.

From Mississippi State basketball at Humphrey Coliseum to the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, "Swag Surfin' " gets fans into games. It may be a bit mainstream at this point, but it always succeeds in getting people to sway from side-to-side together.

Will it be an energy-inducing walk-up song for middle infielder Amani Larry when he takes his first at-bat Friday against Air Force? Probably not. However, think back to Larry's walk-off against Texas A&M last season.

It was the ninth inning. Mississippi State was down one with a runner on base. Larry came to the plate.

Imagine if the first note of "Swag Surfin' " had hit the Dudy Noble Field speakers.

Cam Schuelke — 'Low Rider' by War

War's "Low Rider" is a fitting tune for Cam Schuelke, who is expected to be among MSU's top relief pitchers this season.

Schuelke throws from the right side, but he throws from various angles. He can throw the traditional overhand pitch, but he can also drop down to a submarine slot — hence why the song is appropriate.

Bryce Chance — 'Don't Blame Me' by Taylor Swift

Outfielder Bryce Chance is unapologetically a "Swiftie." He had Taylor Swift as his walk-up song last season, in which he hit .330, and isn't changing it. You may have some Swift fatigue from the NFL season, but her presence was part of a Super Bowl run for the Chiefs.

Maybe her tunes can turn MSU's fortunes around with Chance now expected to be a full-time starter.

Bradley Loftin — 'Sweet Child O' Mine' by Guns N' Roses

What more needs to be said? Those first notes of "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses are as recognizable as any.

When the left-handed Bradley Loftin takes the mound in his sophom*ore season, all age groups in attendance will enjoy what they're hearing.

Gage Haley — 'Big Poppa' by The Notorious B.I.G.

If you're a freshman pitcher like Gage Haley, what's an easy way to earn immediate respect? Take the mound to the tune of "Big Poppa" by The Notorious B.I.G.
