Haagen Dazs Ice Cream Shops: The Dairy-Free & Vegan Options (2024)

By Alisa Fleming onDining Out, Suggested Restaurants, U.S. Restaurants

Updated June 2024! It’s no secret that I loved Haagen Dazs Non-Dairy ice cream. Yes, past tense. Sadly, those marvelous decadent pints have been discontinued and are no longer available in stores. They do have a new line of Haagen Dazs Plant-Based Ice Cream, but it’s only available in Canada, not the U.S. Consequently, they don’t have any creamy dairy-free flavors on scoop at Haagen Dazs Ice Cream Shops. However, they do have a few menu options that remain …

Dairy-Free & Vegan Menu Guide for Haagen Dazs Scoop Shops

Haagen Dazs corporate isn’t very cohesive with allergen information, but we’ve been able to put together the following information via dozens of inquiries over the years.

Ice Cream Flavors

In the heyday of Haagen Dazs dairy-free ice cream, you could usually find a fudgy non-dairy flavor in any of their shops. As mentioned, those blissful varieties are no longer available. But most of their shops offer a sorbet flavor or two. They typically have vegan Mango and RaspberrySorbet flavors. Seasonally, they often have Strawberry Sorbet available only in their scoop shops, not in pints.

Cones & Toppings

According to a Haagen Dazs representative, you can order your non-dairy scoop in a cup or a cone, because all of the Haagen-Dazs cones are dairy free. But do check in store before ordering to ensure that the store owner hasn’t sourced different cones. All Haagen Dazs shops are individually owned, so the cones and toppings can vary. Most offer fresh fruit, crushed Oreo cookies, and some other dairy-free and vegan toppings, but check with the staff.

Smoothies

Their smoothies are back on the menu! When made as is, they contain fruit, sorbet, and vanilla ice cream. But you can order them with an extra scoop of sorbet instead of ice cream, on request. The flavors listed below are for a limited time only. But we have been told by the Haagen Dazs team that they return often, and that some stores will continue to make smoothies upon request.

  • Aloha Mango Smoothie (sub more sorbet for ice cream)
  • Strawberry Banana Smoothie (sub more sorbet for ice cream)
  • Wildberry Smoothie (sub more sorbet for ice cream)
  • Pomegranate Berry Smoothie (sub more sorbet for ice cream)
  • Strawberry Mango Smoothie (sub more sorbet for ice cream)

Frozen Lemonade

In summer, typically from mid-June through the end of August, Haagen Dazs offers fruity frozen lemonades in their shops. They are made with just three ingredients, that start with their non-dairy sorbets. This summer, they are offering the following seasonal flavors:

  • Raspberry
  • Strawberry
  • Strawberry Mango

Where to Find Haagen Dazs Ice Cream Shops

Despite the very European-sounding name, Haagen Dazs is a U.S. company, so most of their ice cream shops are in North America. But they do have outposts in 54 countries. They have over 900 locations worldwide, but the options might vary outside of the U.S. See the websites below to find a shop near you.

Great, but not cheap!

I love that they have non-dairy in their shops now. It’s great for a special treat – and the fudge flavor is one of my favorites. I just wish the scoops weren’t so expensive. It really is a “treat.” Last time we walked in, left and went to the store around the corner, and got a whole pint for much less!
